About The Pomeranian:

The Pomeranian is the smallest member of the German Spitz group of dogs along with other breeds like the Eskimo, Chow, Husky, Samoyed and more. The Pomeranian is also known as a Pom or Pommy. They come in a multitude of colors from solid black or white and are most commonly seen in a red or orange sable. They also come in a parti color, which means two colors, and is usually white with black or some sort of brown. Poms can range in weight from your T-cup version at only 4# to a little bigger and more stable weight of 12#. The Pom is a courageous dog. They are a vigilant alarm and its barking can become habitual if not discouraged as a puppy. Their only purpose, which they accomplish well, is to please and entertain their owner. Due to their small size they may shy away from young children who are too loud and rough. They do socialize well with other pets including cats. They think they are a big dog in a little package and won't back down from a larger dog, which can get them into trouble. They are eager to learn and very devote to their family. They have an affectionate and loving nature with a delightful temperament and are always ready for a game of fetch. Exercise needs will be met in the house for the most part with the addition of a few short walks. A Pom is not a hyper dog but are considered to be very active and oh so entertaining. Poms are trainable if you remember that this tiny little fur ball is still a dog. Try to avoid the temptation to always hold and carry them everywhere. They have legs and should use them. In other words, don't spoil them, too much. Your training method should be that of consistency with positive praise and of course treats. If a bad habit arises and is ignored by its owner they will become a spoiled brat. At that point you may need to seek some professional training. A Pom, which is a shedding dog, will require regular brushing several times a week to maintain their coat. We would recommend a pin brush for coat care. No trips to the groomer will be needed as you can bathe them in the sink. Use a shampoo that is PH balanced for dogs. Keep a very good pair of scissors available so you can trim up their back ends and the bellies of those little boys. As mentioned, Poms do like to play so caution with a young pup is a must. They will run themselves down and possibly their blood sugar as well. Play time should be limited until they are 4 months when they can self-regulate between play, rest and eating.
