About The Pug:

The Pug is a common site in the states. They originally were an ancient Oriental breed that was developed in the Tibetan monasteries. The Pug was no doubt developed as a pet and an entertainer. Their clownish face and happy demeanor is what attracts us to them. They will win friends anywhere they go. Pugs only come in two solid colors, fawn or black, there are no brindle purebred Pugs. The Pug makes a wonderful companion and fits nicely into young families. They adapt will to many lifestyles from and apartment to a big back yard. They are affectionate, anxious to please and sensitive. They have the ability to anticipate their owner's moods and will play with you when you've had a good day or will sit with you on the couch on those not so good days. They are an active dog that enjoys a good game and romp through the house as well as a nice walk around the block. The biggest concern with a Pug is their nose. Due to the pushed in face, which you either love or hate, they have restricted nasal passages which won't do well at high sun or even worse is high humidity. Keep them inside or in the shade with plenty of water during the middle of the day. They are gentle and loyal and easily socialized with other pets. They are a little excitable but well-mannered around strangers so they won't be a great watch dog. They are not excessive barkers. They do love their owners and may pout if ignored or even carry a grudge. They are eager to please so training should be fairly easy, watch the treats as rewards for good behavior, a Pug is known for becoming obese. Grooming is also fairly simple, use a curry brush to remove any dead hairs a couple times a week. A natural dog food is best; it has better quality ingredients that will maintain a shiny and softer coat. The cheaper foods contain corn which will cause the coat to become dull and brittle which will lead to more shedding than normal. You can toss them in the laundry tub for a bath when needed. A Pug is an awful lot of fun and their upbeat attitude helps on those bad days that we have occasionally.
