About The HavaZu / Havanese-Shih Tzu:

This is a cross between a Havanese and a Shih Tzu. They are a no shed and are ok for those with light allergies. They have a very sweet and loving side with a lively and playful nature as well. They love being with their family and make a great companion and napping buddy. They are intelligent, curious and social and should take to anyone. If you're looking for a guard dog this is not it. They thrive on praise so this is a good one to spoil and pamper. They will do well with children and other pets but should be socialized to that environment at an early age. Due to their smaller size, children will need to be taught how to handle this type of pup so that no rough handling occurs or accidents. Caution with children that are under 10 years of age should be taken. Their sensitive side won't take well to any type of teasing or harassment and may get a little attitude with you if you're too harsh. Despite their size, they are much tougher than they look. They may become barky if not taught not to, don't encourage them when they bark and don't get them overly excited when you first come home, if they do than simply walk away from them and ignore them until they calm down and then you can go over and pet and play with them. Most of their activity needs will be met running around the house but they will still love playing in the back yard chasing the leaves or helping you plant those flowers. They are a quick learner and their eagerness to please makes them fairly easy to train. We do have part Shih Tzu which are known for being a little stubborn. As always be consistent and use lots of praise and some treats as a positive reinforcement. Their coat will require some care; comb them out several times a week with a pin brush or hard comb. In between grooming, you can clip around their face and potty areas to keep them tidy. They will need to go to the groomers about every 8 to 12 weeks. Your groomer will wash, clip, trim their nails and pluck out any extra hair that might be in their ears. This is a spunky and fun pup to have around and will be a nice greeting when you come home from a bad day at work. This would be a great consideration for the first time owner.
