About The Havashire / Havanese-Yorkie:

The Havashire is a cross between a Havanese and a Yorkshire Terrier. This low-shedding companion is often a good choice for those with light allergies. They have a sweet, loving personality combined with a lively and playful nature, making them wonderful companions and excellent lap dogs. They are intelligent, curious, and social, making them a great choice for first-time dog owners, families with older children, and homes with other pets. Havashires love being with their family and enjoy meeting new people. They are friendly and affectionate, making them poor guard dogs since they tend to welcome almost everyone they meet. They thrive on praise and enjoy being spoiled and pampered by the people they love. Most of their exercise needs can be met through indoor play, although they also enjoy spending time in the backyard chasing leaves, exploring, or simply being outside with their family. They do well with children and other pets when properly socialized from an early age. Because of their small size, young children should be taught how to handle them gently, and extra supervision is recommended with children under 10 years of age. They can also become barky if that behavior is encouraged, so remaining calm and avoiding excitement when arriving home will help discourage excessive barking. They are intelligent and eager to please, making training enjoyable and fairly easy. They may inherit a little stubbornness from their Yorkshire Terrier side, so consistency and patience are important. Because they have a gentle and sensitive personality, they respond much better to praise, treats, and positive reinforcement than harsh corrections. Early puppy classes are a great way to build confidence and establish good manners. Their coat requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and free of tangles. Brushing several times a week with a pin brush or sturdy comb will help prevent mats and keep the coat looking its best. In between grooming appointments, the hair around the face and sanitary areas can be trimmed to help keep them neat and tidy. Professional grooming every 8 to 12 weeks is recommended and typically includes bathing, trimming, nail care, and ear maintenance. The Havashire is a well-rounded little dog that adapts well to many different lifestyles. Their loving personality, playful spirit, and devotion to their family make them a wonderful companion that will bring years of happiness, laughter, and unconditional love to your home.
