About This Breed:
A Shih-Chon is a mix between a Shih Tzu and a Bichon, they are also known as a Zu-Chon or the most popular nick name is a “Teddy Bear”. This is another designer mix that is very popular with our customers mainly due to their playful and happy upbeat personality. Teddy Bears are a no shed and very good for allergy cases. They are happy and friendly with an easy going personality. They make an excellent companion and napping buddy. They are social, clever and entertaining and will enjoy a good game of tug or ball. Their activity needs are easily met running the house; they will also enjoy a good romp in the back yard or a short walk around the block. Their sturdy body and socialness lends well with children of all ages and other household pets. Make sure that young children know how to handle a small and young dog. They will bond well with all members of the family but may be a little cautious of strangers. They are trainable however you will want to keep your training very direct. Both sides of this mix could throw a little attitude your way. They may be obstinate. Keep your methods black and white so that they know what you expect of them. Always keep it positive with praise and some treats. Reward good behavior, if you catch them doing something wrong a firm NO will work. For the first time puppy owner we would suggest that you enroll in some puppy classes. This will give you a better working knowledge of training and it’s good for the dog also. Their hair coat will be soft and wavy and will need combed out several times a week with a hard comb or pin brush. They will also need to go to the groomers about every 8 weeks. These guys are a nice addition to the family and will bring you many years of happiness. Just remember about the training, a well-trained dog is much more enjoyable than one who is not.
