About This Breed:
A Bichapoo is a mix between a Bichon and a Toy Poodle. These little ones are non-shedding and hypo-allergenic. They will be loving and make a great companion for their family. They will be devoted and loyal to their family, showing love and happiness is in their nature. They will want nothing more than to just be with you. Due to their “I want to please you” personality this would be a good choice for a first time dog owner. All they will want to do is make you happy and be with you. They are social with those they know but may be a little cautious of strangers. They will most likely alert you when someone new is in the house. They can be a little excitable, especially when you first get home, so you may get some excessive barking if you encourage that behavior. When you first come home and they are going nuts what you need to do is to ignore them until they calm down. This way you are not reinforcing them that it is ok to bark like that. They will be good with all members of the family including the children and other pets. Most of their activity needs will be met playing in the house and backyard but will still enjoy walks and trips to the doggie parks. Being half Poodle, they are smart dogs and should be easy to train. As always, keep training on the positive side, use praise and treats to get the point across and to reinforce the good job done. Due to their softer nature they won’t like harsh words or treatment. Since they don’t shed, you will need to comb them out several times a week with a hard comb or pin brush, don’t use a slicker brush, this will turn them into a fuzz ball. They will need a professional grooming about every 8-10 weeks. Your groomer will wash them, clip them, trim their nails and pluck any hair that may be in their ears. You can use good scissors at home in between grooming visits to keep them tidy and clean. This is a nice well rounded dog that will fit most family environments and will do everything in their power to please you and of course make you smile.
