About This Breed:

A Shih-Tese is a mix between a Shih Tzu and a Maltese. They will be a no shed pup with an allergy scale of three; they are not considered hypo-allergenic but are considered very good for most allergy sufferers. They are a happy little pup with an upbeat and playful personality. They are social, a little sensitive and loyal. They will be intelligent with a good sense of humor which will make play time fun. They are good with children and other pets. They have a sturdy little body and can handle most play activities; however the younger children need to be taught how to handle a smaller dog. Most of their exercise needs will be met running the house but will still love some sunshine and short walks. Walk time is a fun time to meet the neighbors, the four legged kind. Training should be consistent but gentle, always keep it positive with praise and a few treats. Just like we learn, do it over and over again, they will catch on. They will take offense to a harsh approach and you may encounter some obstinance, you can thank the Shih Tzu for that. If you find yourself having some difficulty in training I would suggest that you don’t wait too long and enroll in some basic puppy classes. This will help both you and the pup and you will end up with a well-trained and happy little one. Their coat is soft and straight and will require combing out several times a week to keep the mats out. Use a pin brush and a hard comb to accomplish this, a good job for the kids to help with the chores. You will also need to go to the groomers about every 8 weeks where she will not only wash and clip your pup but will also do their nails and pluck the hair out of their ears, this is important to avoid ear infections. This is a fun pup that will fit in nicely for your first or second dog and will be good for the first time owner.
