About This Breed:
A Chug is a mix between a Pug and a Chihuahua. They are happy and friendly with an easy going personality, they bond well with the family but they will most likely pick a favorite. They also may be cautious of strangers. They make an excellent companion and napping buddy. They are social, clever and entertaining. They are intelligent and will may have a slight stubborn side to them. Their activity needs are easily met running the house and back yard. Their sturdy body and socialness lends well with children of all ages and other household pets, young children must be taught how to properly handle a smaller dog. They are trainable however you will want to keep your training very direct. Both sides of this mix could throw a little attitude your way. Keep your methods black and white so that they know what you expect of them. You will need to be consistent and persistent. Always keep it positive with praise and some treats. Reward good behavior, if you catch them doing something wrong a firm NO will work. For the first time puppy owner we would suggest that you enroll in some puppy classes. This will give you a better working knowledge of training and its good for the dog also. Their hair coat will be straight, a little shorter and silky and will need combed out several times a week with a slicker brush or you may find it also necessary to use a rubber curry brush. They will not need to not go to the groomers unless you want them trimmed up or just washed. Washing can also be done in the laundry tub. Just remember about the training, a well-trained dog is much more enjoyable than one who is not, even a small dog.
